  • IRONWORKERS

    What is an Ironworker?

Ironworkers are skilled workers who erect, assemble or install fabricated structural metal products, usually large steel beams. These beams are used in the erection of industrial, commercial or large residential buildings. Ironworkers also erect the steel frame work on bridges, storage tanks and overhead cranes which support heavy equipment. They also erect pre-cast concrete, ornamental ironwork such as stairways, catwalks, gratings, grills, screens, siding and metal windows. Ironworkers who do rigging work, move heavy machinery, pressure vessels, storage tanks and materials. Ironworkers place and tie the rebar for concrete slabs, foundation walls and bridges as well as the Post tension cables in parking garages and bridges.

Most of the work is done outdoors. An ironworker cannot have a fear of heights. They must be keenly aware of their surroundings and the dangers to themselves and others.
